Notre Dame

Hey, I thought I would share my pictures from my trip to Notre Dame. I went to South Bend, IN last week with my research group. We had four poster and three paper presentations at the 2008 Association for Moral Education (AME) conference. We presented on moral conceptions in adolescent-aged students. We did a good job at representing BYU!

Heather turned 2 the day after her friend Mylee turned 1, so we thought it would be fun to have a combined birthday party. Since her birthday she sings "Happy Birthday" then asks if she can eat cupcakes.

So for Halloween me and Lindsay decided we'd dress up as old people. We thought we did a pretty good job.

Candie does a Triathlon

Candie just got done participating in her first triathlon. On Halloween night, we drove up to Redding California, with our friends Joe and Brooke Trogdon. Brooke and Candie trained together for almost a month.
Candie finished in 42 minutes. Josh sure enjoyed going and watching Candie swim, bike, and run. Especially in the pouring rain and wind.

So since there's very few of us who post on this blog, I decided it might be okay to post again. Besides, I love showing off my kids. Sam trick-or-treated for the first time this year.

Addison's Blessing Day

Addison was blessed on Sunday. She wore a dress that was worn by both myself and my mother. We wished you all could have been there to celebrate with us.

Jeremy's friends from school along with my dad and my cousin Greg were in the circle. It was a very special day.

Sammy turns 2!

Here's two pictures from Sunday when we celebrated with the Prall grandparents. The last one is from today, when Sammy is drawing on the new easel that Breton and I made for him. (The other side will have butcher paper for him to finger paint on.) As you can see, he has learned how to do a cheesy fake smile for the camera.

Selective Service

For those who don't know, Ken is planning to start trucking school soon. (It's in the newsletter, but I don't know if those are mailed out yet.) We were told that he could get a few thousand dollars in federal financial aid because he's a displaced worker, so he's been working for over a month on doing all the paperwork and satisfying the requirements for the scholarship. Today was supposed to be the day that he finally got everything wrapped up so he could start school on October 20th. The counselor was handing him stuff to sign... and then he wanted Ken's Selective Service ID number. Uh-oh. Ken was discharged from the Navy for medical reasons when he was 16, so he never signed up for the Selective Service!

The good news is that military service is a valid excuse for not having the ID number (and there aren't many valid excuses), so Ken can still get the financial aid. The bad news is that he has to send a bunch of paperwork to the Selective Service to get them to send him a letter saying that they accept his excuse, and unless we can get that letter within a few days, Ken will have to put off school for another month.

If Ken had never been in the Navy, he would be ineligible for federal financial aid for the rest of his life and there would be nothing he could do about it. If you're born in 1960 or later and you're an adult male, you're supposed to have the Selective Service ID number. You can only register with the Selective Service between ages 18 and 26, so there's no way to "repent" when you're older and get the ID number. To all my male cousins, make sure you register or the government will be mad at you for the rest of your life!

Nellie's Blessing Day

Here are some pictures of Nellie in her blessing dress (actually taken the day after her blessing). Breton blessed her on Sunday. Her Prall grandparents came as well as Breton's brother Ben and his wife Kristi. It was a wonderful day.

This first week has been, well, a first week of school. My roommates are all really cool, except for one but that is another story. It is fun living with Alicia. We get along pretty well, sofar . . . It will be a fun semester with her here. I have never really gone to school with family except for one year with Ryan but its not like i ever saw him haha. My classes are great! I cant pick a favorite because they are all good. I am taking Strength Training, Intro to Music History, New Testament, Human Anat/Phys I, Vocal Instruction, and a Basic Auto. They are all really good. I have to memorize tons of stuff for each one. I get to start learning how to train people in exercises. So when i get home and anyone wants a trainer, i would love to and would love the experience. My friends, Alicia, and I love to make movies. Well, not really movies, more of weird dance videos. I will be starting cross-country soon too so my load will be heavier but i love to run and be in shape so it will be great! My roommate is doing it too so that is more motivation.
I love being on this campus. There is such a special spirit here that is so hard to find other places. The people are so friendly, and everyone is so willing to help out someone in need. The Spirit is just glowing off of the people here. It is great, and i love it how my teachers bear their testimonies at the end of every class. This really is a place dedicated to building diciples of Christ. A diciple training center, as the school calls it. This semester will be full of learning and growing and I am super excited because i love learning new things.
Alicia and I also love telling funny family stories about everyone too, to our roommates. They get a kick out of them.

First week of BYU

Here I am at BYU, Provo in 776 N 900 E. My email is wisety@gmail.com and I don't have good phone access. I have 16 units and I'm working hard. Here's a journal entry I wrote that sums up my first week pretty well:

Oh, the days are wonderful here. My God has blessed me so abundantly. The previous renters in our rooms left behind some things. I acquired two nice warm jackets, each almost as good as the one I already had. I found a good pair of Sunday shoes that fit me perfectly and are comfortable (for Sunday shoes). I found a printer and a walkman, but I don't know if they work yet. I found a few nice shirts/sweaters my size. I found cinnamon and paprika, some canned green beans that are probably still good, salt, tater tots (an unopened bag), mustard, pickle relish, mayo, rolls (the pop-open cans), plastic bags (sandwich and shopping), and of course tons of silverware, plates, bowls, knives, a cutting board, pans, tupperware, etc. WOW!

My roommates are so nice, Seth loaned me bread while I didn't have any, and then refused my offer to buy him more. He does all the dishes (which I hate) and drives me to go shopping. He helps me with anything he can, basically, and we're getting to be good friends. James is never around, but when he is, he's pleasant, as are the next-door neighbors. As of yet, we don't have a fourth roommate, which gives us more room in the kitchen and shower.

I now have at least four close friends: Paul (from San Diego), Seth, Nathan (he and I talk Java together), and Michael (met at Saturday night conference and got on quickly with eachother). Seems like I meet a friendly new someone every day! Today I met five people, and we talked together at the ward dessert social until after everyone else had left!

The Spirit is strong here. Besides some teachers having prayers or even hymns before each class, we have a “devotional” every Tuesday in the Marriot Center (houses about 20,000) and sometimes hear the Apostles speak directly from our own pulpit. Today I came early and sat 7 rows away from Brother Holland! This Saturday and Sunday might be the first time in my life that I've been moved to tears two nights in a row!

Wow! Where have we been, another little one -- way to go Addie -- in the Coleman Clan. Thanks for the photos! Here are another couple of photos of Gr. & Gr. Coleman with Julianna. She is really starting to smile, smile, smile! And she coos too! It is such a thrill, as if we did not ever go through the exact same sequence of joyous development with dear little Caitlin! ;)

Addison Hannelore Green was born Aug. 26, 2008 at 6:54 p.m. She weighed 9 lbs. 0 oz. and was 21.5 inches long. Mother, baby and daddy are doing fine.

Awesome Birthday Parties

Sorry. No picture. Seems like that's almost become tradition.
My birthday is September 29, and I'll be 20! Of course, since I'll be at BYU then, I had to have my parties early. I celebrated with my family and opened presents, (my favorite was this laptop I'm typing on now. My parents said they beat a record for most spent on someone's gifts.) and on Friday yesterday, I had my first friend party in, like, forever! I had it all planned out: the house cleaned by my family and I, the music ready, the fake names of great politicians, the treats, and most of all, the games. We played Mao and Nomic, two little known but fun games. Look them up on Wikipedia if you want. My friend Paul was the best at both, and he won Mao, but our cat Tabby won at Nomic. (With a bit of help.) Soon I'll be at BYU and, if my roommates are cool, I might even have a third birthday party! I like writing a lot; thanks for reading.

EFY is over

Today was a bitter-sweet day-- my last day of this summer's EFY. I learned a lot, taught a lot, and had a lot of fun; however, it will be nice to get back to regular life (social life that is). This picture does a great job of illustrating how excited I have been during EFY! . . . And "yes," I am still that happy. 

Mallory's Turning 8

Mallory turns 8 this Saturday and she will be getting baptized the same day. She's so excited! Here's a picture of her, Bailey and me from a camping trip we took back in May. Lauren is taking the picture from the other side of the campfire. We're roasting marshmallows and eating s'mores, which you might be able to tell from the chocolate all over Bailey's mouth.

Nellie Deanna Prall

Our little girl was born Wednesday, July 23 at 12:45pm. Mother and baby are doing very well. Nellie was 6 pounds 7 ounces and 19.5 inches long at birth. We expect to be going home Saturday if all goes as planned. We feel very blessed that the delivery went smoothly with no complications and that she is healthy and beautiful.

Kailen just had her 3rd birthday and because she loves to dress like a princess and wear pretty dresses, she had a Princess Party. Here she is the day after her birthday, wearing her brand new princess dress on a trip with her grandparents to Build-a-Bear.

I would like to invite all Colemans everywhere to unite as Mustached Americans, and fight the oppression that we receive.
Jeff, grow that powerful lip fur that you once had. Jason, Steven, Tyler...chicks dig the 'stache.

Another Death in the Family

We lost our favorite hamster this week. This was quite tragic after the recent death of our favorite chicken. At least we could afford a decent burial for the hamster. But on a happier note, our cat is recovering quite nicely after being hit by a car.

California, here I come!

I have just found out that I will be coming back to Cali during the week of July 6th to the 13th, and able to be there for Devin's mission farewell talk. However, the reason that I will be out there (or rather, the reason I will be getting paid to be there) is for my BYU psychology research team. I will be in the Fairfield School District with a graduate student collecting data at high schools and middle schools. Our study is about adolescent moral conceptions. Our goal is to get about 200 participants in Cali. 

Needless to say I'm pretty stoked for my first "business trip". I would love to see as much family as possible while I'm in California for the week. As well, I will see everyone at Devin's farewell on the 13th.

Devin's Mission Call Changes!!!

Wow! We just got news today that Devin is needed earlier than stated in his mission call. Our Stake Pres. called today with the news. Canada Calgary Mission neds him to report to the MTC on July 23, 2008. (Not Sept. 3)...so he will speak in our Sac. MTG on July 13 at 9 :00 am (Portsmouth Bldg.) Then everyone is invited to our house for dinner after church. We will have an open house the following Sunday for ward & stake friends. We will leave for Utah on Monday the 21st. We are excited but thrown into a shopping frenzy now since we only have 4 1/2 weeks to prepare. (We have not started shopping the list yet, either!) Devin is Waaayyy excited to be going earlier than expected. He turns 19 on August 5th, so will be in the MTC for his birthday. COOOOL!! Devin looked at me, grinned, then said, "Oh great. Now I'm going to be at the mercy of Mom for shopping!" I just laughed and said, "Yup!"
